Burriton Bison, BUT IN 3D! And in a concert!

The theme of the first mx and game jam was "dimension change", and we decide to try to adapt a sub-genre very inherently 2D to a 3D space: tossing games. In tossing games, like Burrito Bison and Berzerk Ball, you have an initial launch and you have to try to keep up the speed height by bouncing on the enemies. This games are tipically 2D sidescrollers without the aims to control you forward momentum.

To recreate this in 3D, we imagined a stage with a rockstar ready to stage-dive. The aim is to jump from the stage and keep bouncing as long as possible. While you are airborne, you score progressively increases. Furthermore, your score increase also when you bounce on somebody from the crowd, when you collect an item, and when you complete an air-tricks. Collecting items also give you a boost in bounce and forward momentum.

If end up on the floor not bouncing for 3 seconds you loose, so make sure to keep it airborne!

Controls:

  • A-D : rotate camera left and right
  • W: Gain forward momentum. Ideally, this should be done just at the beginning of the game, but since we weren't able to complete the game, we decided to allow players to accumulate extra forward momentum by pressing the button multiple times.
  • S: While it is pressed, it augments the speed at which the character falls. This is particularly useful to be able to land on specific enemies or to gain more bounce height. Just remember to stop pressing BEFORE you bounce on something, or it will kill your momentum!
  • Spacebar: Allows to execute a jump. Ideally the game should have only a jump at the beginning, but since we weren't able to complete the game, we decided to allow players to accumulate extra forward momentum by pressing the button multiple times.
  • Left Shift: Execute an air-trick. If the trick is completed before bouncing off something, the player gains 10 points
  • R: Restart the game
  • Esc:  Exit the game
